I started by assembling the "corset" piece. I hand-patterned it based on my measurements and to have the least number of seams possible, to keep the sprite look intact. There is boning in the side seams and in the normal "princess seam" location on the front of the corset, but only in the lining so that the front remains seamless. After installing the zipper, I attached the lighter red band around the bottom. Next, I entered ruffling hell and created a "shirt top" out of linen. I tried to pattern it to attach the sleeves, but this didn't work out, so I opted to use elastic both to make the ruffling trim easier to attach, and also so that my sleeves could be free-attached to my arms (they stay up even without fashion tape). I cut a pair of shorts WAY too big for my legs and then utilized the stretch of the red suiting to gather them into the band at the bottom of the shorts to create the "poof" (after installing zippers in both...ahh, Nomura). Then, I topstitched upholstery pleather into straps to attach for both the halter top and accents around the sleeves. The leg warmers were easy--just topstitched linen onto the red and then made the top band tight enough to stay up on my calves and wore them over a matching pair of boots I already owned. I carefully pinned black fleece to the front of my first real set of Mickey ears to cover the logo.
- Personal Thoughts:
- It was way too much fun to be our OCs
